Britain is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II. At the end of a huge concert in her honour, her son, Prince Charles made a short speech.

Prince Charles is not as popular as the Queen. There are people who think that the royal family is unnecessary in modern times.

Prince Charles knows all this. His speech was simple and touching, thanking the Queen for her decades of service. He also remembered ordinary people and not just the world-famous pop stars who performed at the concert: he thanked the 600 technicians who worked behind the scenes to make sure the concert ran smoothly.

And, he used humour. Even his first line made people smile: he said "Your Majesty... Mummy..." when addressing the Queen, showing that he could be informal in public. He also made a joke about how he once read the weather report on the television news. He said he was glad that the weather was fine during the outdoor concert. "And the reason, of course, is that I didn't do the forecast."
