Tips for writing plays
  1. Create an outline (or roadmap) first. Let the story unfold scene by scene in your outline. Your outline doesn't have to have any dialogue yet.

  2. Think about what should be your opening scene, the climax and ending scene. The play does not have to follow the order in which events actually took place. But, it does have to flow in a way that allows the audience to follow what is happening.

  3. The dialogues should sound natural. You may use slang words and very informal speech if that's the way the characters are speaking to each other. Try saying the words out loud as you write them.

  4. Get a group of friends to read aloud your draft script. Better still, have them act it out. Listening and watching them can help you to make the dialogues and moves more natural.

  5. Polish your script. Briefly describe props, sets and costumes.
